Survival in Story South
Courtesy of Maggie and Frank Reidel

This couple had two priorities during the blizzard...
getting their dogger out for potty time
and bringing in some firewood.
This is the view of their siding glass door...
yep, that's all snow!

Being well seasoned ex-Alaskans who
have spent time in the bush they didn't
panic but knew just what to do.
Priority one - dogger - begins with a path
from the door to the the leash.

Day and night they watched as the snow climbed the
house and began to close off what little view they had.

At the storm's conclusion this was it.

By sleeping on the couch and shoveling at the
path every few hours they were able to provide a
bit of space for Clover.  This is from Clover's perspective.
Is she saying, "You expect me to do what???"

This is from Maggie's perspective...note
a small section of sky showing.

By storm's end this was the entrance to their home through door number one.

Now, tackling door number two...necessary
to get to the woodpile.

Frank has made progress on his side door.

Maggie is holding her own on her side door.

And eventually the two did meet.

And the wood pile was reached.

We think you might agree that these two troopers deserve a round of applause. (They have our thanks for feeding our cats just before the storm and again after they dug themselves out.)  They are role models for all of us that get faced with a counter clockwise storm  stalling out right over top of us.  In what the 4 families of us who live there call "Story South" we have come to expect some monster piles.  And we wouldn't trade it because we also have monster views!!  Just make sure the beer frig is full!!
