STORY'S MISSING

A few weeks ago the QuestDex Phone Directory was issued for 2004. That's a good thing - we all like to get our new phone books. But, slowly the community of Story realized that all of North East Wyoming was there...except us! Not a single 683... number was to be found. Did we all cancel service at the same time? Did we all request unlisted numbers? Will we have to pay a monthly service fee for that? Did we pay our phone bills? Are we just the forgotten town of Wyoming? Our first thoughts were that no one could reach us by phone from anywhere in North East Wyoming. What an inconvenience that will be...and costly for a business! Our second thoughts were even more alarming. How could we call our friends and neighbors? We couldn't confirm that dinner invitation, we couldn't chat with a sick neighbor, why, we couldn't even renew a library book!! And what, if anything could we do about it. It seemed unlikely that QuestDex would reprint the entire phone book...maybe we could do a Story Museum fund raiser by charging $.50 a phone number for those wishing to be included and then publish a booklet for a small donation? Or we could start a "Phone Book Phestival" featuring tin cans and strings and a bon fire made up of you-know-what. Some thought of calling the company just to hear them recommend retaining last year's book and reusing them...to which the proper response would have been, "and you will retain all our checks from last year and just reuse them!" Of course the obvious would be a petition, a class action suit, a town meeting to "discuss" the issue...we're not sure just what did happen, but the following appeared in the Sheridan Press a few weeks later:
Ok, paragraph #2: "much time is necessary to prepare..." Can we start a pool guessing the month, day...and YEAR...that the addendum arrives! And we don't understand this: "...most of the 683-prefix telephone number ...were not in the white pages." To date, no one has found one that was listed, therefore, the word should have been all. And how about that phrase "internal processing error." I'll bet you and I would put it more in the category of a SNAFU!! We'll let you know
if and when the books arrive...in the meantime call STORY REALTY at Ok, THEY ARE HERE...December 22, 2003. And the addendum consists of 3 letter sized pages full of tiny print. But, we are now "in the phone book."
