Big Horn fallIn October  the mountains got decked out in their autumn colors.  The first snows fell in Story - September 27 and October 2 - and the cat could definitely be tracked in both! Since then we have been marveling at the extension of an incredible fall season.

Like most of the country this year, we seem stuck on a beautiful fall day (from perhaps early September) where the temperatures are in the 60's and 70's during the day and into the 30's and 40's at night.  Winter coats are collecting dust again, except for those wise folks who stowed theirs in the back seat of the car knowing that this gift cannot last forever.

Denny got all geared up for cold & snow and actually got the porch furniture, hose and  summer tools into the shed by early September.  Now we are having to sit on the steps and each day we wonder if we should just go ahead and drag a couple chairs back out.  Maybe we'll be having Thanksgiving dinner on the deck.  (When we moved here locals said that once in a while it happened that way.)

This is the time of year when many thoughts turn to the season of hunting.   Our friend, Ed, showed us a mighty fine Muley deer that he tagged.   An outstanding set of antlers and a winter's worth of good eating. Then a few days after elk season started he stopped again to impress us with the elk he took.  And, no doubt, we were impressed!!  This old boy's antlers will probably make the record books.
